I’m young, must of been about about seven as my brother wasn’t born till the following year. And I’m at that age where I’m starting to bug people with endless stupid questions. One day, on a family holiday in Uzès, I start up a conversation with a family friend, within 10 minutes I find myself stumped. I’ve asked a question and I’ve got such a intangible response I’m left speechless (a rarity at that age believe me). I had queried some bible bullshit I had heard at school that prior week…

‘So, Miss Shrewby says, God put me here and he put me here for a reason’
‘Well…’
‘Well what?’
‘What’s my reason?’
He looked around for a couple of moments, with reflection he was probably worried he was going to put his foot in it somehow. He cleared his throat…
‘You being alive does have a reason’
‘Ok so what is it?’
he went on to explain,
‘Well, however you see it’ (he wasn’t a bible basher) ‘there are governing forces that have some control over us, for example’ he dropped the can of coke he was holding, ‘there is a force that makes this can drop to the ground, it’s called gravity and is very strong, but as you see’ he reached down and picked up the can, ‘I’m able to deny that force and remove its gravitational weight’.
Looking suitable puzzled I pipped up,
‘Yes yes, but what has that got to with my ‘reason’?’
‘Well you see, these forces, they just work.’
‘And’
‘Well, they work so well, it’s almost like they had intended to’
‘Ok?’
‘Look at it this way, the answer to your ‘reason for being’ conundrum is the same as the question – It just is, your purpose, reason, is to be; just you – go with the flow, you’ll bump into all the ‘reasons’ you’ll need along the way’
At this point I remember walking off. I left so confused. But to this day I have held that sentiment.
This brings me tidily to my point. Somethings just friggin’ WORK together.
Sit back and relax to this. Destino (A Walt Disney & Salvador Dali collaboration) V *Shels (The most immense musicians ever) MASHUP
Chilling with *Shels blaring over the speakers, Matt Harvey magically puts on Destino half way through the last track on the Sea of the Dying Dhow album. The two worked so well together I’ve recreated the magic here. Enjoy
